Grace had a guest for dinner last night! Zoey had to go pick up Grace's "crumbs" that she dropped while eating. It was all going so well until Grace started trying to get those same crumbs Zoey was getting. That's when Zoey got mad and showed her who the "big dog" was lol I also thought it would be good to start desensitizing Grace to some things. She hasn't been scared of a lot besides the steers but I just want to expose her to more.
So I took a big garbage bag and tore it into long strips. I tied 3 strips on the gate of her pen where she would have to walk through them and then some more strips on the back on her pen. I thought maybe I should video because things could get interesting. But as I was having that thought my phone died so I had to plug it up. Went out and got Grace and led her in and to her pen we went. Let me just tell you she took the fun right out of it. She could have cared less about that stuff. She walked right through it with no hesitation. She then walked around and smelled of the other pieces I had tied up and then came back and stuck her head through the ones hanging from the top of her gate and waited on her dinner. Maybe this whole desensitizing thing will be easier than I expect! Now my question is where is that "crazy OTTB" that everyone always talked about because apparently she isn't in my barn!

This morning the Retired Racehorse Project opened the application entry for the Thoroughbred Makeover that will be held Oct 27 - 30, 2016 at the Kentucky Horse Park. We have everything submitted and now the nail biting part... the wait! They will contact and announce the participants who will compete in this year's makeover mid February. We will go ahead and start preparing just as if we were already accepted. Can't wait to see who all gets in!!! Grace told me this morning she was excited about today! Check out the video below to see her cutting up this morning! Thank you to everyone who is cheering us on and following our journey! Stay tuned for more details :) January 1, 2016... I can't believe another year has already passed! It's amazing how fast time flies the older you get. 2015 taught me a lot, a lot about myself... a lot about other people... a lot about horses... a lot about the world.
So first off I guess I should say "Happy Birthday" to Runbridled (Grace) 6 yrs old, Etoile Royale (Hope) 4 yrs old, Ripit 7 yrs old & Badgers Rising Star (Bozo) 19 yrs old. This also marks the day where I can quit putting a # on each ride I make on Grace. The rules of the Retired Racehorse Project states that before Jan 1 of the competition year the horse you are wanting to compete on can have a maximum of 15 rides in their second career. I picked Grace up on 10/31/15, between then and Dec 31 I only put a total of 7 rides on her. I thought a good down time would help her transition into her new life. She has brought so much to my life already in the short 2 months and 7 rides. My friends and family can see the joy I have each time I am on her. 3 more days until the entries open for the Retired Racehorse Project. I think I have most everything ready to turn in and then I will impatiently wait to hear if I get accepted. I don't know how long that will take but it will be on my mind constantly. I am not a patient person. I have a lot of goals this year, some I may make mention of in time and some I will keep to myself. No matter what I may or may not end up reaching I hope that this year is ridiculously amazing! So here's to 2016! Go for your goals and don't let anyone stop you!!! |
